### Job summary

Part Time 27 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Wellness Activity Officer/exercise practitioner to join the Cardiac and Pulmonary rehabilitation services based in South Tyneside. The successful applicants will be working over the 2 services to deliver high quality evidence-based care to both Cardiac and Respiratory patients undertaking rehabilitation. The services are based at South Tyneside hospital but are delivered both in hospital and in community venues around the area. The post involves leading the exercise component of both services through assessment and delivery of the exercise during the classes.

### Main duties of the job

Leading on exercise component of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation service

Supporting the assessment and suitability of clients to participate alongside the Nursing team

Contributing to the education of patients around activity and exercise

Ensuring the safe exercising of clients in hospital and community venues

Contributing to the education of clients around healthy lifestyle and disease specific lifestyle changes

Delivery of a programme of exercise to those referred to Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehabilitation services to undertake assessment, conducting inductions to the service rehabilitation environment, goal settings and where appropriate, one to one and class instruction. Promoting the benefits of physical activity and healthy lifestyle (e.g smoking cessation or nutrition) to patient/clients, through education, in one to one or group sessions, specific to their diagnosis.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience of direct delivery of physical activity to groups and individuals with varying needs and abilities.
- Experience of working with individuals with low, moderate and high risk factors for exercise/rehabilitation.
- Experience of advising individuals in relation to lifestyle and wellness.
- Knowledge of the principles of exercise programming and design.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Recognised GP referral accreditation courseor equivalent (NOC/NVQ Level3).
- NOS/NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Exercise and Fitness (for example, RSA/OCR Gym Instructor or Exercise to Music).
- Be on the register of Exercise Professionals as a Level 4 Advanced Instructor.
- BACPR qualification or equivalent experience.
- Level 4 pulmonary rehabilitation qualification (consideration may be given to persons working towards or with a willingness to work towards).

### Physical Skills

**Essential**

- Must the travel requirement of the role i.e. to be able to travel to main hospital and community sites during contracted working hours, along with transporting any professional equipment that may be required to carry out the role.

### Knowledge & Skills

**Essential**

- Ability to organise workload, prioritise competing demands and work under pressure.
- Good communication skills, maintaining professional behaviour at all times.
- Knowledge and skills in using motivational interviewing and behaviour changes techniques.
- Ability to work on own initiative or as a member of the team.
- Excellent IT and computer skills including in depth knowledge of current technology and audio visual equipment to support documentation of interventions on the specified clinical system (meditech) and to support the remote delivery of exercise classes using digital solutions e.g Microsoft teams or willing to learn Physical skills.
- Comprehensive physiological assessment skills e.g. calculating body mass index, and health screening and appraisal.
- Good knowledge of anatomy and physical relative to physical activity.
