We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6, ward sister / charge nurse committed to delivering high quality care to join our elective orthopaedic service at Mexborough Elective Orthopaedic Centre for a 9 month secondment.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) working in partnership with Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BH) and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (TRFT) are opening a dedicated orthopaedic hub for the people of South Yorkshire, with health professionals undertaking hip and knee replacement inpatient procedures alongside foot and ankle, hand and wrist, and shoulder day case surgery.

The Montagu Elective Orthopaedic Centre (MEOC) facility will feature two state-of-the-art theatre units, two anaesthetic rooms and a recovery suite, in addition to 12 inpatient beds.

As the ward sister you will work with the ward manager to provide high quality clinical care for patients presenting with a variety of orthopaedic elective surgeries, you will create an environment where the patient is central to all decision making and the delivery of high quality compassionate care is every body’s prime objective.

### Main duties of the job

You will support the ward manager to lead and co-ordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of the MEOC ward. This includes acting as an expert resource to the ward team and the wider multi-disciplinary team to support them in the delivery of high quality patient focused care, and ensuring all staff are work in a professional manner and all registered staff are working as accountable practitioners. The post holder will be a mentor to the student nurses allocated to the ward and ensure an excellent learning environment for the ward team.

We expect that you will be fully dedicated to person-centred care and that you will work collaboratively with our multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that patients receive a tailored management plan which ensures the elective orthopaedic patient follow the planned surgical pathway reviewing both current issues and proactively looking to prevent potential issues which may arise.

To be part of our team the successful candidate have recent experience of caring for patients in a ward setting, have excellent leadership and clinical skills, as well as evidence of continuing professional development, have drive, ambition, passion, a flexible approach and dedicated to working in this modern, high quality environment supporting best practice for orthopaedic patients following GIRFT recommendations.

### Knowledge & Experience

**Essential**

- Proven experience at Band 5
- Evidence of ward/dept management under supervision
- Development of knowledge and skills in speciality.
- Scope roles relevant to speciality

**Desirable**

- Experience of carrying out and monitoring appraisal process
- Evidence of management responsibilities already undertaken

### Qualifications & Training

**Essential**

- RN with current NMC registration
- Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues.
- Teaching certificate (or evidence of working towards)
- Demonstrate professional post-registration development

**Desirable**

- Post Registration educational development

### Personal Attributes & Skills

**Essential**

- Demonstrate good verbal communication skills with multidisciplinary team/clients/relatives
- Demonstrate the ability to deliver educational and clinical skills training
- Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working practice as required with good attendance and high standards of clinical care.
- Precise and methodical working practice and demonstrate ability to work and manage the ward day to day unsupervised.

**Desirable**

- Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision.
- Provide evidence of supervisor/ implementation of teaching programmes for student nurses, eg preceptorship education, mentorship
