## Job Content

### Job overview

Denton Ward is a well-established 24-bedded general surgical inpatient ward providing care for patients both before and after surgery, as well as following emergency admission. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team and provide essential administrative support, including manning the reception desk and managing patient medical records.

Excellent communication skills are vital for this role. You will work closely with ward staff, visiting professionals, patients, and their families — often during periods of significant stress. The successful candidate will be able to tailor their communication style to meet the needs of each person, ensure that medical records are handled in line with Trust and national standards, and offer a welcoming and supportive presence to visitors on the ward.

### Main duties of the job

The primary duties of this role include delivering an efficient and welcoming front-line reception service, alongside providing comprehensive administrative support to the entire ward team. Key responsibilities include supporting the admission and discharge processes, managing patient medical records, answering and directing telephone calls, assisting visitors to the ward, and completing a range of general clerical and administrative tasks.

Strong keyboard and computer skills are essential for this position; however, full training on all relevant Trust systems will be provided to the successful candidate.

To contribute to the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate care, all staff are expected to act as positive role models and consistently demonstrate the Trust’s PRIDE values: People focused, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence. The post holder should display behaviours that promote and support an inclusive and respectful culture at all times.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To provide clerical support and assist the Ward Manager or Deputy on the admission/transfer and discharge of patients
- To greet and direct all visitors e.g. patients, relatives, Chaplains, to the appropriate member of staff or patient
- To update the inpatient diary, ensuring all details are accurate and up to date and correspond with PAS
- To keep records up to date by using PAS i.e. patients admitted, transferred, discharged from the Ward
- Liaise with nursing staff over the discharge of patients, including where appropriate the collection of property from General Office, dispatching notes, arranging transport to peripheral areas.

Please refer to the Job Description for the full specification of responsibilities and requirements for this post.

Please note that this advertised position, which is part of occupation code 4131, does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa (this includes if you are already in a sponsored post and looking to change employer). The Trust would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role.

Please note due to high volume of applications for some posts, this post may close before the displayed closing date. We recommend that you apply for this role as soon as possible.
