We have an exciting opportunity for Vehicle Maintenance Technicians to join our Banstead workshop. This is a rewarding role where your technical expertise directly supports lifesaving emergency services.

You’ll join a friendly, supportive team working on a rota basis to support operations. Our workshops run 7 days a week (6am – 8pm), so flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays is essential. Additional payments are provided for unsocial hours.

You’ll also receive specialist manufacturer training across our fleet, including MAN, Mercedes and Fiat, as well as training in electric vehicles (EV), air conditioning and other specialist systems, ensuring you stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry standards.

### Main duties of the job

### What you’ll be doing

- Service, repair and maintain a diverse fleet of emergency vehicles and specialist ambulance equipment
- Carry out fault diagnosis using modern diagnostic systems (Mercedes Star, Fiat Witech, Autel)
- Inspect and assess vehicles for roadworthiness, safety, and compliance
- Complete preventative maintenance and urgent repairs
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing (Class IV & VII)
- Work across a wide range of systems, including:

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Work as part of a small team delivering planned and reactive maintenance across a fleet of 700+ vehicles, including ambulances, SRVs, 4x4s and support vehicles, on a 37.5-hour shift rota.Inspect, assess and report on vehicle condition, roadworthiness and safety using diagnostic tools and testing techniques.Service, maintain and repair vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently, in line with manufacturer standards and repair times, including work on electrical systems, welding, fabrication, hydraulics, air conditioning and heating.Diagnose faults using advanced diagnostic systems (e.g. Mercedes Star) and accurately interpret fault codes and service data.Prepare and present vehicles for MOT testing (Class IV & VII) in line with Ministry standards.Recover broken down or immobilised vehicles safely, minimising risk and further damage.Maintain accurate records, including parts usage and job completion, using fleet management systems.Order, receive and manage parts in line with operational requirements.Communicate effectively with colleagues, managers and wider Trust staff.Apply SECAmb policies and Health & Safety regulations to ensure safe working practices and maximise fleet availability.Support and guide apprentices or less experienced staff where required, and participate in training and development.Maintain a clean, safe working environment and use PPE as required.Provide flexibility to work across SECAmb sites and undertake additional duties within the scope of the role.Support the Trust’s values and ‘No Blame Culture’ approach.

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Good overall mechanical knowledge of cars and light commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of the operation and function of a fleet maintenance workshop
- To have comprehensive knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, including modern vehicle electrical management and computer based workshop diagnostic equipment.

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience in the repair and maintenance of petrol and diesel vehicles, with the ability to work unsupervised on a diverse and specialised fleet.
- To have comprehensive knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, including modern vehicle electronic management, and of computer based workshop diagnostic equipment e.g. Tech 1, Tech 2 and Star Diagnostic.
- Ability to repair and maintain to the required standard Service vehicles which have specialised bodywork/livery and fittings.

**Desirable**

- Experience with light commercial vehicles and small plant and machinery

### Motor vehicle qulifications

**Essential**

- Hold a recognised qualification in motor vehicle maintenance such as BTEC / HNC level or City & Guilds level 3 and above
- Must have driving licence for categories of all types of SECAmb vehicles (C1 driving licence) with no more than 3 penalty points

**Desirable**

- NVQ Level 2
