### Job summary

This post offers an ideal career opportunity for a doctor awaiting entry into a core or specialty training programme. It is particularly suited to a post Foundation Year 2 or Junior Registrar who has a strong interest in high quality medical education and immersive simulation. The primary duty of the post holder is to support the delivery of the Trust's undergraduate immersive simulation programmes. This post is based at QEH with expectation of cross site cover.

Programmes are mapped to core curriculum requirements as stipulated by partner universities and may also be developed in line with specific site based initiatives and service requirements. Immersive undergraduate simulation programmes form a part of the wider trust offer for undergraduate students on placement and are evaluated both locally and as a part of trust wide review. The role may also include supporting elements of the Clinical Education postgraduate medical education offer. This offers the opportunity to gain insight into the differing educational approaches between undergraduate and postgraduate workstreams.

### Main duties of the job

Delivery of Simulation and training programs

*To support the delivery of an annual programme of work in conjunction with the Lead educator- Clinical Skills and Simulation

*To support the safe delivery of all aspects of the courses including health and safety, consent, co-ordination and management of course faculty, learner experience and course evaluation.

*To develop scenarios/materials, while ensuring that the content is relevant, up to date, and meets the appropriate curricula's/needs of participants; using current applicable multi professional simulation/skills based training methodologies.

*The post holder will work towards actively leading the delivery of simulation programmes; of which the provision of debrief post scenario is integral. Ensuring human factors as well as technical skills are reviewed during these debrief processes.

*Actively participate in the setup and close down of teaching sessions prior and post -events and other related training sessions (simulation equipment, clinical skills, furniture, and audio visual equipment).

*Role model to maintain training areas in a tidy and safe, and educationally conducive state ensuring that disposable items, sharps bins and clinical waste disposal bins are utilised appropriately as required by all learners.

*Ensure the clear communication of required repairs and maintenance of simulation equipment, ensuring equipment is kept in a clean and presentable state for future users from programmes they are involved in.

### Job responsibilities

*The post holder will enable and actively encourage inter- professional approaches to immersive simulation across the Trust.

*Reporting of faults with equipment, furniture, fixtures and fittings to the technical team within each centre.

*To liaise with the Undergraduate Medical Education administrators who will provide support to facilitate the smooth administration of the medical simulation training programmes to include publicity, registration, and course feedback, for simulation activities they are involved with.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- *Sound understanding of non technical skills and human factors principles and their impact on patient care.
- *Experience in delivering both formal and informal teaching sessions.
- *Experience participating in or implementing change or service improvement activity.
- *Experience of working within the UK Health Care system
- *Interest in medical education, training and teaching, specifically inter-professional immersive simulation
- *Interest in working towards a higher medical education qualification

**Desirable**

- *Experience of delivery of e learning techniques to assist training and education
- *Ability to critically analyse research data and apply to current practice
- *Evidence of innovation in learning and teaching
- *Evidence of development of multi-professional learning initiatives

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC
- Medical Degree from a recognised University
- *Post foundation level 2
- *Evidence of achievement of foundation competencies in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice
- *Eligibility to live and work in the UK
- *Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate educational delivery
- *Evidence of on-going and relevant additional professional development activities.
