### Job overview

We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic sonographer who holds at least a post graduate certificate in obstretrics and gynaecology, that is CASE acrredited or equivelant, DQASS acrediation for Nuchal scanning is essential.

We have 7 rooms in the Maternity ultrasound department and our general department has 4 rooms.  The range of Ultrasounds we perform include MSK, Abdominal / Pelvic, Neck and Soft tissue and Gynae US. Our dedicated  Maternity Ultrasound  department performs all Obstetric scanning . We also have community Ultrasound services at Orsett Hospital and Brentwood community Hospital. The department has invested in new imaging equipment and promotes service development and improvement initiatives.

Our general and Doppler department is open 7 days a week. We are seeking to extend the opening hours of our maternity department into the weekend as well.

We also staff a symptomatic breast care unit, paediatric hip service and an outreach clinic at Brentwood Community Hospital.

We support CPD and actively train internal candidates in Ultrasound from the Radiology Department. We encourage a learning environment and you will receive full support from our multidisciplinary team

### Main duties of the job

- To ensure the highest professional occupational standards are maintained at all times using a high level of specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidelines where appropriate.
- To work autonomously performing a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetrics and gynaecology.
- To provide accurate dating based on foetal ultrasound measurements in the pregnant woman - crucial to the calculation and confirmation of the expected date of delivery, and for the planning of antenatal care and tests.
- Participate in the provision of a screening service to detect foetal abnormalities, monitor growth in the “at risk” foetus and management of the multiple pregnancy. To have the sole responsibility for obstetric ultrasound examinations and reports, and to liaise directly with the obstetric clinician or midwife where appropriate.
- To use analytical and judgement skills to interpret highly complex images, accurately differentiating between normal and pathological findings. To advise clinicians directly when a delay may have a direct impact on morbidity and mortality.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Range of effective approaches for teaching & development of juniors
- Ability to manoeuvre US equipment and accessories effectively

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive experience within hospital US practice
- Demonstratable knowledge of a range of abnormalities and pathologies

**Desirable**

- Effective staff management skills
- Direct supervisory responsibility

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- A CASE accredited Post graduate qualification in medical ultrasound, Inclusive of obstetric and gynaecological scanning.
- Current and up to date registration through a medical body such as HCPC GMC or NMC or through voluntary register for clinical technologist

**Desirable**

- To hold a BSc hons degree or DCR in diagnostic Radiography
- Msc Medical ultrasound
- DQASS Nuchal Transluceny certification
