This post is only suitable for doctors who have completed SHO-level training (minimum 4 years postgraduate clinical experience) in general internal medicine/internal medicine training and/or established haematology registrars. This post does not have educational approval but if appropriate, you would be supported to develop your CV towards applying for a haematology training number or developing a specific interest in non-malignant haematology if already working in a haematology training number post. Candidates will preferably possess MRCP (UK) or equivalent. Prior experience in haematology is essential, as is prior experience of working in the NHS (at least 12 months). ### Main duties of the job Induction The post will have a formal induction process to familiarise you with the hospital, department and specialty. If it is appropriate, this will include an introduction to safe laboratory practice and basic diagnostic skills relating to laboratory work relevant to haemostasis and thrombosis. Further induction requirements will be assessed on an individual’s previous experience and educational needs. Clinical and Laboratory This post will support the on-going delivery of the service specification for Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. This includes caring for the patients with a known diagnosis within the wider multi-disciplinary team, such as at specialist clinics and MDT meetings. The focus of the role will also be on developing educational resources and delivery of education to areas of healthcare where patients with TTP are likely to present. This will be the case across the footprint of the East Midlands TTP Network, not only at UHL. There will also be an opportunity to support the development of laboratory relevant protocols and educational resources, as well as working towards publications in this specialist field. Research There will be an opportunity to support research activity within H&T. As a minimum, this would include that related to the TTP registry, but will also include any other opportunities that arise. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities - Supervise, monitor and assist the Foundation doctors (F1/2) in the day-to-day management of TTP inpatients - Liaise with nurses, doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff regarding TTP patients - Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled - Attend and participate in outpatient clinics, focusing on H&T/TTP - Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions - Supporting delivery of educational sessions relevant to TTP - Design and deliver educational resources relevant to TTP across the TTP network - Design and deliver outreach services relevant to TTP across the TTP network - Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues - Support H&T research activity - Attend induction in each hospital or new department - Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
