Inpatient and day case treatment is carried out Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital North Durham, and Shotley Bridge Hospital. Previous experience in Plastic Surgery is essential. The post is based at the University Hospital of North Durham with clinics and theatres at Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland in addition to the University Hospital of North Durham. 2 posts are available - 1 x Full Time with on-call post & 1 x Full Time non on call post The Plastic Surgery department is a surgical specialty within the larger Surgical Care Group. The unit currently provides Plastic Surgery services to the population of Durham, Darlington, North Yorkshire, Bishop Auckland, Sunderland, South Tyneside and Gateshead. The department works on a hub and spoke basis with in-patient elective and Trauma work based on the University Hospital of Durham (UHND) site, day case and outpatient clinics on the Bishop Auckland and Shotley Bridge sites and outpatient clinics only in Sunderland. ### Main duties of the job The post holder will assist in theatre and undertake trauma clinic duties in keeping with their experience. Those with additional experience and clinical skills will be offered the opportunity to undertake local anaesthetic lists and review clinics independently. Be given opportunities to develop surgical skills and clinical management experience commensurate with an ST3+ level registrar. A wide range of surgery on offer will give opportunity to develop deficient areas. Participate in outpatient clinics with the assessment of both new and review patients. Attend all operating and outpatient commitments of their supervising Consultant. Independent operating with experience in skin cancer surgery, flap elevation and skin grafts, management of hand trauma, experience in emergency Plastic Surgery trauma. Hours of work may vary according to Clinical need. Overseeing the work of the F1 and CT1-2s, and can choose to get involved with the organisation of the Junior Staff Rota, including allocating study and annual leave. They also have primary supervisory responsibility for all trauma admitted during working hours, overseen by the on-call consultant. Supervise the Dressing and Hand Clinic in the department. Be expected to provide cover in unforeseen emergencies and exceptional circumstances and to deputise for absent colleagues in the normal run of duties so far as is practicable. Continue to demonstrate progress towards personal development goals, e.g. NTN allocation, research projects. etc. Participate in clinical audit projects within the Department.
