### Job overview

We welcome applications to work on the Emergency Medicine rota in the Emergency Department at the York Hospital. The post is non-training; however, opportunities for development will be available as described in the Job Advert.

There may also be an expectation for cross site working at Scarborough Hospital but the successful application will be based at York Hospital.

The post holder will be expected to keep themselves up to date with current knowledge & practice, to attend clinical meetings within the department & to participate in audit & “in-service” training of other healthcare professionals.

The post holder will be required to deputise for absent colleagues from time to time and to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

The post holder will also be required to be available exceptionally for such irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.

### Main duties of the job

The principle duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients from and around York.

- To, at all times, comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a            Doctor.

To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

- To undertake duties as defined within the job description in so far            as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director.
- To be responsible and managerially accountable for the                           reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use             and  influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical                 Director.
- On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s             Corporate Induction.
- To participate in the Trust’s statutory and mandatory training                    programme
- To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out                      patients under your care.
- To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate.
- To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are                      observed.

Detailed working knowledge of safeguarding agenda, and its relevant legislation, policy and guidance is required.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Competence in basic clinical procedures
- Able to prioritise clinical time and workload
- Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
- Understanding of the basic principles of audit and clinical governance
- Able to communicate effectively in medical context
- Able to establish good working relationships with colleagues, patients

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of UK health systems, practices and values.
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Evidence of leadership qualities

### Experience

**Essential**

- 24 months experience in an Emergency Department

**Desirable**

- 12 months continuous experience within the NHS
- Experience of research

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- MBChB or equivalent medical qualification
- Satisfactory completion of ACCS training or equivalent
- Satisfactory completion of ST2 training or equivalent
- European ALS training or equivalent

**Desirable**

- MRCP, FRCS, FRCEM, MRCEM (primary, intermediate, SAQ, SJP exams)
- Additional degrees - MSc, PhD
