It provides assessment and management as part of a regional system of care focused on improving population health locally and regionally. The thriving Ophthalmology department runs busy outpatient clinics, an eye casualty service and day surgery lists provided by a dedicated multidisciplinary team of medical clinicians, in conjunction with a full range of allied health care professionals, specialist nurses, orthoptic & optometry teams. The Royal Eye Unit is a purpose-built unit that supports outpatient consultations and treatments houses a dedicated eye theatre. There is shared access to a day case theatre for patients requiring covered lists. The facility has had extensive refurbishment and expansion to house a dedicated retinal suite and eye casualty to undertake Acute Referral Clinics. ### Main duties of the job This is a full-time clinical post based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital, to provide elective and emergency care for ophthalmology patients as part of a multidisciplinary team. There is no out of hours on-call commitment. The post offers an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their clinical knowledge and skills in the management with patients with acute ophthalmology problems, cornea and cataract pathology.  It would be ideally suited for a candidate who has already received basic training in cataract surgery but is not fully independent and wishes to build up their experience and surgical numbers.
