Barts Health NHS Trust is offering an outstanding Senior Clinical Fellowship in Complex Spine Surgery. This 12-month post provides in-depth experience across both neurosurgical and orthopaedic spinal disciplines, working with a team of internationally recognised spinal surgeons at one of Europe’s busiest Major Trauma Centres.

You’ll join a world-class spinal service managing trauma, metastatic spinal cord compression, complex infection, and acute degenerative conditions. With 18 Complex Spine and Neurosurgery consultants, 50 dedicated neurosurgical beds, state-of-the-art theatres, and close links to the London Air Ambulance, this is an opportunity to advance your surgical, academic, and leadership skills in a high-volume, high-acuity setting.

What we’re looking for:

GMC registration with licence to practise. MBBS or equivalent, MRCS (essential), FRCS (desirable). Senior neurosurgical experience (ST8/Post-CCT or equivalent). Demonstrated interest in complex spine surgery. Commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork, teaching, and academic activity.

### Main duties of the job

In addition to the 1:6 general neurosurgical on call as a senior fellow supervising an ST3 trainee (or equivalent) out of hours. The spinal fellow will share an on-call for complex spine emergencies from 0800-1700 Monday-Friday with the other complex spine fellows. This includes answering referrals and performing emergency and urgent operations.

It is expected that the spinal fellow will be non-resident on-call for general neurosurgery out of hours and will be free of general neurosurgical on call commitments during the day.

The Complex Spine Fellow is expected to prepare and present cases at weekly complex spine MDTs and monthly morbidity and mortality meetings.

The Complex Spine Fellow will be expected to participate in clinical audit and service improvement projects.
