### Job overview

This Research Fellow in post in Trauma and Orthopaedics will be co-hosted by the Department of Orthopaedics, and the Academic centre for Surgery (ACeS) at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust and the MD will be completed through University of York (UOY).

This Research Fellowship post will be for a 2-year fixed term where the trainee will undertake 80% academic research training and 20% clinical training in Year 1, and 20% academic research and 80% clinical training in Year 2. They are employed by the NHS Trust on an honorary contract for the duration.

The trainee will also undertake Research Training provided by the University. They are also expected to undertake research training and attend academic conferences.

This is an ideal post for those who have started their Higher Specialist Training in T&O. This research fellowship will enable them to complete a higher degree (MD), as Out-of-Programme-Research (OOPR).

This is a full-time post for up to 2 years as OOPR. The post-holder will be undertaking research of the highest quality on a selected topic, collect data, perform data analysis, and dissemination including preparing the MD thesis, final study report, academic papers, and conference presentations.

The post-holder will receive Clinical supervision from Mr James Bassett (T&O) and Academic supervision from Prof Amar Rangan, supported by ACeS. They will receive line management from T&O directorate.

### Main duties of the job

- The James Cook University Hospital is a designated Major Trauma Centre for the North East of England.  It is also a tertiary centre, providing comprehensive multidisciplinary care for a wide range of orthopaedic disorders and trauma, including complex post-traumatic reconstructive surgery. The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton has the GIRFT accredited elective surgical hub for the Trust. The postholder will be expected to work in the T&O department for 20% of their time in year 1 and 80% in year 2.
- The appointee will undertake the Trust’s mandatory training (and/or equivalent induction training).
- Ensure all clinical trial/research studies and activities are conducted in accordance with the approvals, the laws, guidelines and frameworks which govern the set up and conduct of clinical research within the UK.

- Experience in supervision of junior medical staff and relevant staff in other disciplines
- Experience in General Trauma
