Our Radiation Protection Technologists support users of X-rays and radioactive substances at 10 hospitals, 3 Community Diagnostic Centres, mobile mammography and CT units, and a large number of private dental and veterinary clinics.

We are looking for a technically minded person to join our team as a trainee Radiation Protection Technologist. You may be

- A graduate (or are soon to graduate) with a degree in a scientific or engineering subject, or equivalent qualification and experience who we would train through the 2-year IPEM Clinical Technologist Training Scheme to RCT registration as a Clinical Technologist in Radiation Physics, or
- Have, or will soon have, A level, BTEC or equivalent scientific/technical qualifications who we would train through a three-year degree apprenticeship scheme, leading to a BSc Healthcare Science (Radiation Physics) from UWE Bristol and RCT registration as a Clinical Technologist in Radiation Physics.

Graduate entrants would be expected to be employed at NHS Agenda-for-Change (AfC) band 5 (starting at £32,073) and degree apprenticeship entrants on AfC band 5 Annex 21 (starting at £23,378). On successful RCT registration as a Clinical Technologist in Radiation Physics, the new registrant would be eligible for internal training towards a permanent band 6 Specialist Clinical Technologist post.

### Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job will include

- Undertake training to achieve RCT registration as a Clinical Technologist within an appropriate timeframe.
- To help imaging departments to ensure that radiation doses to staff, patients and others are kept as low as reasonably achievable while maintaining good diagnostic image quality.
- Testing of a wide range of X-ray imaging systems, principally in healthcare settings, but including some veterinary and other systems, and providing reports and recommendations to clients.
- Advising clients on best practice and radiation regulatory requirements. This may involve some delivery of basic training.
- Travel, on average several times a week, sometimes long distance (e.g. Newcastle). The department has access to pool cars, but use of own car may be necessary at times when these are unavailable.

- Experience in a technical or scientific field.

- Experience of X-ray quality assurance and radiation protection
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
