Bedfordshire Talking Therapies provides a range of therapy for residents of Central Bedfordshire and Bedford Borough, including Low Intensity, High Intensity CBT and Relational Therapies.

This Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner post is a training role that ends with a Post-Graduate Certificate in Low-Intensity CBT. The post-holder will work within the service providing low intensity interventions at Step 2, whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.  The training post will equip the post-holder to provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self- management interventions to patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. The post-holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider (2 days per week), as specified within National Low Intensity curriculum, and work in the service for the remaining 3 days of the week, using their newly-developed skills

The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

The duration of the PWP trainee course is one academic year and will be provided by the University of Essex. The university course starts in September 2026.

The interview process for this position will be an online panel interview.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will engage with the PWP training which includes clinical assessments and academic work, therefore the ability to study and engage in university is essential.

Trainee PWPs work with patients who are struggling with depression and anxiety disorders and will juggle multiple responsibilities and tasks. An ability to empathise is essential, as well as organisational skills.

Being IT literate is needed for this role due to working on a patient database and liaising with other professionals by making online referrals.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A Trainee PWP will attend university in Essex and engage with the training, as well as practicing these skills within the service by conducting initial assessments and treating patients with low intensity CBT.

PWPs within Bedfordshire Talking Therapies work online, via telephone and face to face. They complete assessments, attend clinical supervision, facilitate online groups, computerised CBT and Guided Self-Help.

- Evidence of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem
- Ability to manage own caseload and time

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Computer literate & ability to use a range of programmes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills
- Ability to function well as part of a multi – disciplinary team.
- Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care
- Local knowledge of Bedfordshire

**Desirable**

- Received training (either formal or through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
- Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with service users

### Education / Qualification

**Essential**

- Evidence of ability to study successfully at Undergraduate Level or the equivalent.
