### Job summary

The purpose of this role is to provide assessments and a range of evidence-based treatments to a caseload of patients with mild to moderate symptoms such as worry and low mood whilst attending the University of Southampton to become a Qualified PWP.

This position is ideal for someone with a passion for helping people who is looking to start a career within NHS Talking Therapies.

You will need to be enthusiastic about supporting people with empathy and have a strong understanding of mental health. We especially value those with personal experience of mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression.

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience supporting people with low mood or anxiety, in a professional or voluntary environment.

Knowledge of the NHS Talking Therapies services and the stepped care model.

Ability to self-reflect and respond well to feedback to learn and develop skills.

There are vacancies with the following Talking Therapies services - Southampton (full time only central Southampton) and Hampshire (full time or part time Basingstoke, Gosport and Eastleigh)

### Main duties of the job

Attend university and meet the requirements to qualify as a PWP.

Undertake patient-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.

Manage and convey information which may be of a sensitive and / or distressing nature.

Assess clinical risk and refer to specialist mental health services as indicated autonomously if assessed as urgent, or in collaboration with the caseload manager if the risk is assessed as low but the client's needs are beyond that of brief psychological interventions. This will involve writing and sending the referral.

Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.

Discuss patient care with external services through meetings, emails and phone calls.

To maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and procedures in relation to Mental Health and Primary Care Services.

Gathering patient feedback through patient experience questionnaire (PEQs).

Respond to and implement supervision guidance by supervisors in clinical practice.

Post holder will be responsible for maintaining continual professional development.

Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
