Therapy Assistant Practitioner (B4) Role – Fixed Term Maternity Cover for up to 10 months 24.75 hours/week (0.66wte)

Women’s Health Physiotherapy Team

This fantastic role is central to the women’s health physiotherapy team at NWAFT. You will work within a passionate, warm and experienced team who will support you in your development.

Once trained you will be able to assess and treat women with pelvic health issues (e.g. pelvic pain in pregnancy, bladder problems), and work on the maternity ward and breast cancer wards offering standard physiotherapy advice and support with exercises and education prior to patient discharge.

You will support the rest of the team with non-clinical admin and day-to-day running of the service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with:

- - A keen interest in women’s health - Excellent communication and organisation skills - A desire to improve and develop - Confidence to lead group sessions independently - Ability to work both within a team and autonomously

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

### Main duties of the job

Once trained and competencies signed off - Your role will incorporate both clinical and non-clinical work:

- You will be assessing and educating women’s health physiotherapy patients 1:1 and in a group setting in outpatients.

- You will carry out ward-based therapy work on the maternity wards – offering pelvic health advice, and on the breast cancer ward issuing advice and home exercise programmes prior to discharge.

- You will document all clinical encounters.

- Stock taking, general housekeeping and administrative duties.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- To have an in-depth knowledge of the roles of Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist within rehabilitation and the ability to support their interventions to promote patient independence, recovery and safe discharge planning
- To have an in-depth knowledge of rehabilitation
- To have an in-depth knowledge of the cardiovascular system
- To have an in-depth knowledge of the respiratory system
- To have an in-depth knowledge of the musculoskeletal system

### Experience

**Essential**

- Significant experience of working as a band 3 in a Therapy support worker role or student therapist role
- Comfortable using clinical and administrative IT systems as part of daily workflow

**Desirable**

- Experience of facilitating group-based activities and delivering education sessions to patients in a healthcare or community setting

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Level 3 apprenticeship in health and social care (NVQ III)
- GCSE English and Maths – grade 9-4 or Functional skills English and Maths - level 2
- Evidence of having attended clinical training and how this has been put into practice

**Desirable**

- Relevant degree, e.g. level 5 foundation degree (healthcare related) sports therapy, sports science, rehabilitation science, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology
- A level in human biology

### Key Skills/Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, accurate and timely patient documentation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to use verbal and non-verbal communication effectively, demonstrate active listening, and adapt communication styles to meet individual needs
- Ability to work autonomously, managing own workload and prioritising effectively.
- Sound knowledge of therapy-related equipment and the ability to assess, select and instruct others in its appropriate use
