### Job overview

To prepare theatre for an operating list completing checklists to support. To scrub for a range of specialities including, General, Orthopaedics, ENT, Gynae and Urology.

To act as patient advocate and to maintain high standards of patient care ensuring that patient objectives are achieved using a systematic approach to patient care.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care, providing support to other members of the multidisciplinary team.

To liaise with all patients and their relatives and ensure that they are kept informed of treatment and progress and to participate in the provision of advice and support.

To promote evidence-based practice and to take an active part in any relevant research/audits being undertaken planning and initiating changes to enhance patient care.

To ensure compliance with Infection Control standards, in line with Trust policy.

To maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and care, teaching and monitoring others as necessary.

To provide clinical leadership to theatre teams.

To participate in the induction/in-service training of staff who are in their supernumerary period.

To train and supervise junior staff in collaboration with the Education and Training Team.

Following your corporate induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email \[email protected\]t if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

- Specialist clinical skills
- Assesses patients & their care needs
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrates ability to use own initiative
- Effective & concise communication skills demonstrated.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse Part 1 and 2 /Registered ODP
- Registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council/HCPC

- Relevant specialist Course
- Surgical First assistance course
- Prep for mentors or equivalent

### Experience/Knowledge

**Essential**

- Demonstrates understanding of clinical issues within the Theatre Department
- Current NHS Issues

**Desirable**

- Experience in two or more areas, i.e. recovery/scrub/anaesthetics
