The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Community Children’s Physiotherapy team are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to support the delivery of therapeutic programmes for children with complex health needs within a special school setting.

The role is based within the NHS Physiotherapy team at Northern Counties School, and the post holder will work alongside the physiotherapists to ensure the physical needs of the students are met, as well as supporting the team with administrative duties.

The post will be predominantly based at Northern Counties School, however, may involve work into other community settings, ie: patient’s homes and clinics.

### Main duties of the job

- To provide support to the physiotherapists in delivering individual and/or group therapy sessions to children with complex health needs.
- To communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, parents, carers, educational staff, and other health professionals.
- To be able to use and review specialist equipment, including standing frames and moving and handling equipment.
- To be able to assist in the moving and handling of patients using appropriate equipment
- To support the physiotherapy team in administrative duties and housekeeping to ensure the smooth running of the service.

- To assist the paediatric physiotherapy team in the delivery of therapy services to children with special needs within a special school and community setting.

- To be responsible for the housekeeping duties within the team

- An appreciation of the principles of physiotherapy practices and procedures

- Paediatric Moving and Handling Skills

### Knowledge & Experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience of working as a therapy assistant
- An understanding of manual handling principles
- Have a basic understanding of the principles of physiotherapy clinical practices and procedures

**Desirable**

- Experience of working with individuals with a physical disability e g mobility problems

### Qualifications & Education

**Essential**

- Good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including Maths and English
- Technical qualification e.g. NVQ Level III Diagnostic and Therapeutic Care or equivalent technical/work experience
- Current driving licence if relevant to role

**Desirable**

- Associate Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
