### Job overview

The community respiratory team in Enfield has a vacancy for a fixed term technical instructor band 4.

The community respiratory team provides self management advice and support to patients with chronic lung disease (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis and interstitial lung disease).  The team consists of nurses, physios and support staff and provides pulmonary rehabilitation which is a 6 week exercise and education course, home oxygen assessment and review service, home visits, clinics and telephone advice for complex management of conditions.

This role will support delivery of pulmonary rehabiliation,

### Main duties of the job

To undertake clinical work delegated from the qualified therapy/nursing staff.

To work effectively as a member of a team in providing a programme of community based and home-based pulmonary rehabilitation and therapeutic activities

To be able to do a non-complex respiratory assessment and treatment in liaison with the physio/nurse both in clinic and home including: -

Able to perform basic spirometry and calibration as needed

Demonstrate and teach inhaler techniques

- Demonstrates correct use of nebulisers to clients
- Completes outcome measures including CRQ, Nijmegen, HAD score, and patient surveys.
- Able to demonstrate and follow up correct techniques of using Sputum clearance adjuncts including ACBT, flutter, acapella, OPEP, PEP, Incentive spirometer, bubble PEP
- To follow up patients and do respiratory techniques including positioning, postural drainage, breathing control, percussion, vibrations, shaking and Buteyko and breathing retraining techniques as instructed by the physiotherapist.

To contribute to all stages of the pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) and therapeutic process including: - Referral taking and information gathering through liaison with clients, their informal carers, and colleagues from health and other agencies.  PR Initial assessment including ISWT,6MWT, STST, CRQ, HAD, TUAG.  To be able to warm up, cool down and modify PR exercises in liaison with the physio.  To organise education sessions for PR both in the community and home.

To be able to deliver and install temporary adaptive equipment in clients own homes. To be able to operate manual handling equipment i.e. hoists, rota stands, to be able to perform therapeutic manual handling techniques with patients.  To be able to operate computer systems.

To provide clients with general information and advice on a range of services that could meet their need and quality of life, referring on to the partnership services as needed.

To form appropriate relationships with clients and their families and communicate with them in a way that respects their views, autonomy, and culture.

To be able to produce internal reports of clients progress.

To deal with a range of patient and carers who may be distressed

### Other

**Essential**

- Car owner/driver and able to use vehicle for work
- Full UK driving license

### Experience

**Essential**

- Experience at working at band 3 level in a physical rehabilitation setting
- Experience working within a physiotherapy setting, delivering care to patients with physical or respiratory problems
- Evidence of working with and caring for adults either in an acute or community NHS setting
- Knowledge and experience of working with respiratory patients and their carers

### Skills and aptitudes

**Essential**

- Physio rehabilitation skills
- Ability to organise & respond effectively to complex information.
- Word processing and PC skills

### Personal Qualities & attributes

- Willingness to further training and develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role.
