We are seeking an enthusiastic Renal Research Finance Support Officer to join our multi disciplinary team and play a lead supporting role in the finance management of our exciting portfolio of clinical research projects.

You will work closely with the Renal Research Manager, Research Governance, Research Nurses and wider members of our clinical research study team.

You will manage administrative and financial support for projects within the research unit .The post holder will be responsible for the management of financial administration including coordinating and maintaining standards throughout all projects and providing project support . They will need the ability to work autonomously, as a strong team member and as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team.

The post holder needs to have the ability to work effectively, proficiently and efficiently to gold standard along with the ability to plan and prioritise workload.

The required person must be proactive, have initiative, a strong work ethic and be an excellent communicator. A high standard of written, organisational and numerical skills are required with very strong attention to detail. Previous NHS experience and an understanding of how research in the NHS works is an advantage. The candidate should also be able to work autonomously and plan and prioritise work effectively.

### Main duties of the job

Be responsible for the configuring, setting up and maintaining of project finance files and documents in line with Research Finance and Sponsors’ stipulations and processes.

Maintain manual and electronic filing systems accurately.   To be responsible for all required drafting and typing of correspondence, reports and presentation materials.

Provide support as necessary to the project managers, research governance and wider research team in the overall planning, set-up, maintenance and monitoring of key projects.

Communicate information within immediate teams, collaborators and stakeholders both within and external to the department.  Effectively communicate and co-ordinate all finance meeting requirements and the outputs of the meetings including taking the minutes.

Monitor deadlines and ensure any follow-up actions are executed in a timely manner.

Communication with colleagues across the research community and other stakeholders using a range of methods.   Support the team to develop project related documents including finance trackers, spreadsheets , invoices, forecasts and statements.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Provide high quality financial support to project managers, research governance and the wider research team in the delivery and ongoing management of research studies. This includes working with clinical and non-clinical members of the team and other multi-disciplinary teams.
- To assure effective research compliance with regulatory processes and requirements including facilitating reporting requirements.
- Provide support to the research governance team in line with appropriate guidelines and processes.
- Participate in the maintenance and development of databases and systems.
- To assist the wider research team with financial administration and maintenance of financial research records to a high standard.
- Assist team members with any financial duties.
- To contribute to new starters induction processes as well as training for research team members.
- Act as a point of contact for support and advice to the wider renal research team.
- Support implementation of projects, services, initiatives through timely and relevant information analysis and administrative support, in accordance with the agreed priorities of the team.
- Attend meetings and accurately record discussions in concise, clear minutes.
- Capture actions within meetings and update, maintain and distil action logs.
- Provide high quality project, service, initiative and administrative support including information and analysis and finance reporting.
- Engage and work collaboratively with colleagues and senior stakeholders.
- Assist in producing and updating key documents (using full suite of Microsoft Office tools)
- Provide high quality support to ensure that the finance tasks and activities are planned, managed and delivered effectively.
- Establish and maintain finance files, trackers, folders, databases and requests to invoice.
- Work in an integrated manner with the local teams.
- Ensure all activities meet organisational standards using a range of electronic tools, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
- Be flexible and support members of the research team as and when required with ad hoc requests and additional duties.

- Experience in a finance department is essential, with a focus on invoicing, accounts payable/receivable, data entry and dealing with figures and contracts.

- Experience in establishing collaborative working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Previous experience of working within an NHS Trust or clinical research environment
- Experience of working within a project management office structure
- Experience and knowledge of research and processes in the NHS
- An understanding of the importance of maintaining security and confidentiality of information

### Training & Qualifications

**Essential**

- Minimum Grade C or above GCSE/Equivalent to include English and Maths
- Specialist knowledge and experience in administrative procedures and systems
- Evidence of on-going professional development

**Desirable**

- NVQ Level 3 or Business Level 3
- Understanding of clinical research terminology and commercial trial contracts
- Accounting or auditing qualification

### Analytical and Judgement skills

- IT skills including the use of the internet, Word packages, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and databases
- Demonstrable organisational and time management skills
- Ability to raise requests to invoices, track payments, manage aged debt, reconcile invoices with study activity and liaise with Sponsors appropriately
