### Job overview

The Specialty Medicine Directorate are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Support Medical Secretary to support the directorate based at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

The post holder will be required to work within a team using their own initiative and demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills.

There are two positions available supporting Cardiology or Diabetes and Endocrinology.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

### Main duties of the job

The main purpose of this role will be to provide secretarial duties such as audio typing of medical correspondence, mail and filing duties, managing patient pathways and liaising with staff, patients, relatives/carers and external partners.

A good understanding of the principles of Referral to Treatment guidelines is also required and an empathetic approach to customer care, therefore an excellent telephone manner will need to be demonstrated.

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to use Welsh in routine workplace situations, such as greeting customers, answering calls, responding to routine enquiries, providing information, arranging appointments and taking messages. ### Experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience in a secretarial role within a health setting.
- Experience of working in a busy office environment.
- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload.

**Desirable**

- Previous NHS experience
- Knowledge of NHS/Health Board applications, i.e. WPAS

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- RSA/OCR Level III or equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience.
- Good standard of education.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Medical Secretary qualification eg. AMSPAR, ECDL.

### Aptitude and Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent keyboard and audio typing skills
- Excellent communication and telephone skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Confidentiality and diplomacy.

**Desirable**

- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
