### Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Medical Secretary to work within Medicine division based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the workload of the Consultants within the department and ensure that an efficient service is provided.

You should already possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4 or C - A) or equivalent, RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience).The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.

*This post is a 12-month fixed term position, 18.5 hours per week*

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription.

They will also be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and difficult enquiries.

The successful applicant will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a busy Medical Secretaries office.

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Understanding of confidentiality/data protection issues.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of NHS policies.

### Education/Training

**Essential**

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages eg PowerPoint, Word, Excel and other IT skills acquired through training and practical experience
- 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4 or C and above) or equivalent
- RSA Stage 3 typewriting, word processing (or equivalent)

**Desirable**

- AMSPAR
- NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration
- ECDL
