## Job Content

### Job overview

This is a direct replacement job for a departing substantive colleague.

We are looking to recruit a dynamic surgeon with a sub-specialist interest in knee  surgery. Electively the role is split between provision of knee (full and partial) arthroplasty and soft tissue surgery. From a trauma point of view the successful candidate is expected to competently manage periprosthetic fractures around the knee and also ligamentous injury

The outpatient service for this service is a multidisciplinary clinic with input from physiotherapy, podiatry, radiology and sports and exercise medicine consultants and registrars. This service has grown over the past 24 months and the work associated with these clinics has led to a greater demand for our services.

### Main duties of the job

Within a 10 PA job plan, the post will be based primarily at Homerton University Hospital and the post-holder will have the following core responsibilities:

- Soft tissue knee surgery, including osteotomies around the knee.  Any prior experience with patella-femoral pathologies /Pediatric / adolescent knee surgery will be an advantage
- Support the provision of high volume Knee arthroplasty with expected provision of partial knee  and complex primary knee replacement
- Support the development of the robotic knee replacement service and fellowship level training is desirable in either a robotic or navigated knee platform.
- General trauma provision at a DGH but subspecialty knee competence is essential for 1) peri-prosthetic+ intra-articular fractures 2) Acute ligamentous injury in both the paediatric and adult population

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The standard job plan is annualised with a total of 10 PA’s (DCC & SPA) including a 1:10 trauma surgeons of the week on-call commitment. The job plan follows a rolling 1-4 pattern.

The post will be based in the Trauma and Orthopaedics department. The primary purpose of the role will be to support elective and trauma clinical sub-specialty activity with a degree of flexibility expected depending on the precise requirements, which can vary from time to time.

The post holder will perform independent outpatient clinics and will be allocated sufficient admin time to independently manage the output from these clinics. The post-holder will have access to theatre with sessions annualised to allow the ability to cover vacant lists within the proposed working days, and their job plan will be such as to allow sufficient freedom to provide such cover.
