### Job overview

At University Hospitals Plymouth we have a comprehensive stroke centre and we are looking to expand our thrombectomy service to be able to provide a 24/7 service to the South West Peninsula. We welcome applicants to join our multi-disciplinary team and can offer either a full-time stroke job plan, which does not include general medicine commitments, or a job plan shared with another department, including neurology, care of the elderly, rehabilitation medicine and internal medicine. Preference will be given to candidates who are seeking to work solely in Stroke. Applicants will contribute to a regional network (currently in development) to provide out of hours advice on thrombolysis and thrombectomy and weekend working (at no more than 1 in 7 frequency) covering the hyperacute stroke unit.

The job is primarily based at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, a large teaching hospital and Neuroscience centre, and this offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with colleagues in allied specialties, including neurosurgery and neuro-intensive care and to develop sub-specialty interests related to stroke, education and clinical research. We are passionate about improving the quality of stroke care across this beautiful part of the country and feel this is a particularly exciting time to join the UHP stroke service.

The successful applicant/s will join the existing consultant body at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust in order to expand current provision of stroke services in our regional Neuroscience centre. The successful candidate will also be expected to play an active role in the development and medical management of our departments; to participate in the training and education of medical students, resident medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals, including ACPs.

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Able to demonstrate experience in having taught resident doctors

**Desirable**

- Evidence of enthusiasm and experience in teaching
- Teaching qualifications

### Management

**Essential**

- A thorough understanding of NHS governance processes
- Clinical management experience (e.g. rota co-ordinator, trainee representative, committee membership)

**Desirable**

- Evidence of interest and ability in management.
- Attended appropriate courses or gained qualification in management.
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi-source feedback or other workplace-based assessments.

### Skills and Experience

**Essential**

- Experience making independent stroke reperfusion decisions

**Desirable**

- Attended appropriate courses, fellowships or equivalent.

### Practical Requirements

**Essential**

- Ability and willingness to work hours of the job, shifts, on-call with any reasonable adjustments to take into account local requirements or disability.

**Desirable**

- To have access to own transport to fulfil duties on the role.

### Research and Clinical Audit

**Essential**

- Evidence of a research interest and clinical audit

- Presentations at local/regional/ national/international meetings.
- Relevant audit projects.
- Published as first author in peer reviewed journals.
- Experience recruiting patients to stroke clinical trials

### Education,qualifications and special training

- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist register via: a) Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in a medical specialty. Proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview. b) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) c) European Community Rights

**Desirable**

- Completion of stroke specialist training
- Experience and interest in stroke rehabilitation
