### Job overview

The Station Support Manager (SSM) provides support to the (Location) Group Manager (LGM).  As a member of the Group leadership team, the SSM is accountable for the co-ordination of  staff welfare and management, ensuring the effective delivery of emergency care services  across the Group by:  Actively supporting and promoting the Trust’s vision and values through role modelling effective and appropriate leadership behaviours in both day-to-day operations and in high  risk, difficult and distressing situations; being flexible by demonstrating appropriate  leadership styles and adapting communication to match the situation and audience.  Representing the LGM on behalf of the Trust when required, including at public events.  Collating information and compiling reports for the LGM as required.  Lead on serious incident investigations, undertake the Family Liaison Officer (FLO) role  and undertake complaints investigations.  In the absence of the LGM, lead on key management tasks deciding how these are best  achieved and seeking guidance when required.  Supporting Clinical Team Managers (CTMs) in the delivery of key performance indicators (KPIs) and objectives through the co-ordination of:

 Assist in the delivery of key performance, quality and productivity targets which contribute  to the achievement of the KPIs/Group scorecard which will be reviewed at monthly Chief  Executive Performance Reviews and which show evidence of continuous improvement.   Personally undertake investigations in line with the required standards of quality and  accuracy.   Delivery of agreed objectives.   Timely provision of high quality reports.   Maintain responsibility for personal development including attendance at seminars and  training courses as agreed with the line manager.   Plan and organise a wide range of on-going complex activities and programmes in line  with station group objectives, formulating and adjusting plans as required.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Demonstrable current leadership and management experience at a post graduate diploma level or equivalent experience whilst working in an operational ambulance environment or other relevant healthcare setting.
- Setting, monitoring and reviewing plans and ensuring resilience and sustainability within them to achieve objectives and targets at both strategic and tactical level.
- Improving and delivering operational performance
- Identifying/planning for implementing change initiatives.
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with internal stakeholders from members of staff and trade union representatives to senior managers.
- Hearing and presenting management cases on a panel at all levels.

### Knowledge and Skills

**Essential**

- Planning and prioritising conflicting demands and often unpredictable work patterns.
- Management of risk; identification, mitigation and realisation of risk with effective communication of risk to all levels of the organisation and review with stakeholders
- Delivering services that demonstrate value for money, implementing service change to drive efficiency and ensure financial efficiencies where possible.
- Creating a clear vision and translating strategies into operational plans
- Demonstrating continuous CPD including leadership.
- Receiving, interpreting ad analysing highly complex data to increase understanding and inform decision making.
- Presenting highly complex, sensitive or contentious information to internal and external groups and where the atmosphere could be hostile and antagonistic.

- Degree or substantial experience in an operational management setting
