### Main duties of the job

### Job responsibilities

Management Responsibilities:

- To participate in the supervision, objectives and regular reviews of support staff on the Unit.
- To support other qualified staff and unit manager in the management and clinical supervision of staff on the unit.
- To provide support for staff in stressful situations.
- To assist in the induction of new staff and students on placement in the absence of the Unit Manager and Unit Team Leader and Head of Care.
- To support relatives, visitors and other members of staff etc. when visiting the Unit.
- Assist the Unit Manager and Unit Team Leader in ensuring the Unit is adequately and safely staffed from within the agreed establishment by adopting a flexible approach in duty patterns.
- Observe the Statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act (1983) and advise other disciplines as required.
- Responsible for maintaining high standards of clinical practice by the use of clinical examples and leadership skills.
- Ensure that all staff adhere to the Companys Confidentiality Policy.
- To assist the Unit Manager to ensure the unit meets the requirements for the Care Standards Act 2000.
- Clinical Responsibilities
- To actively participate with the multidisciplinary team in assessment, formulation, implementation and evaluation of individual centred treatment plans.
- Participate in Clinical Audit
- Observe the code of Professional Conduct as laid down by the Nursing Midwifery Council.
- Provide support and advice to statutory and voluntary agencies.
- To report any complaints / mishaps/ accidents, in accordance with agreed procedures and prepare reports for the Clinical Manager / Unit Manager / Unit Team Leader
- Ensure statutory training is reviewed regularly and that all staff are aware of regulations and procedures to be followed.
- To act as an advocate to the client where appropriate ensuring that social, cultural and spiritual values are respected.
- To be aware of the requirements of Area Health Authorities, Inspection Protocols and report to Unit Manager / Unit Team Leader and related issues.
- Teaching and Research
- To frequently take an active part in the teaching of permanent staff, students and multi professional groups.
- To provide assessment of staff competence as required by clinical responsibility
- To promote and maintain good public relations with purchasers and members of the public
- To frequently take an active part in the teaching of students, staff and multi professional groups.
- Contribute to the ongoing educational needs to all staff and seminar presentations
- To provide assessment of staff competence as required by their placement objectives
- To take an active part in research.
