### Job overview

Ward 22 is an acute, fast paced environment compromising of 36  beds, with patients varying from tracheostomies, laryngectomies and non invasive ventatilation requiring acute interventions/management.

We provide holistic care, to the acutely unwell and all patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The ward treats a wide range of thoracic conditions including lung cancer, asthma, COPD, TB, type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure, pleural effusions, pneumothorax, Tracheostomies and PE’S .

Support will be given at a clinical level by a senior nurse, and from a wider organisational structure including the preceptorship lead, clinical skills team, clinical practice development nurse and learning and development. Staff can obtain the knowledge and skills required to rotate into the Non invasive ventalitation unit.

The Unit welcomes and will support both newly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.   The successful candidate will be expected to rotate from day to night duty.

They act as a Primary/Named Nurse within a multi disciplinary team, developing collaborative, needs based care plans, through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

They provide excellent professional, skilled and effective person centred, evidence based nursing care.

They are actively involved in the health and well being of staff and service users.

They are visible and accessible to patients, families and carers working together to ensure efficient, effective and caring services.

They contribute to achieving all performance indicators, essential standards and quality outcomes

They contribute to the education and development of the workforce and students.

They contribute to staff appraisals and support personal development plans.

They safely administer medication following Trust policies and practice guidelines.

They will provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
