This can range from providing non invasive ventilation to patients in Type 2 Respiratory failure to dealing with adults with more complex health needs. The unit comprises of four Tracheostomy weaning beds and take regional referrals to assist in the weaning process from tracheostomy ventilation to possible decannulation.  We also specialise in providing care to patients with a wide range of neuro muscular diseases including motor neuron disease and Guillian Barre’ syndrome. We strive on providing a high level of holistic care to our patients; we work closely with our multi-disciplinary colleagues and value and respect each other. We are an extremely supportive team who encourage learning and development at every opportunity. ### Main duties of the job Respiratory nursing gives you acute dynamic skills which are transferable. The Unit welcomes and will support both newly qualified and experienced Registered Nurses. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner and have excellent communication skills.  The successful candidate will be expected to rotate from day to night duty. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care. Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care. Informs the nurse in charge when changes in circumstances may affect patient care. Maintain nursing records in accordance with the NMC and Trust Guidelines. Maintain and improve quality of patient care through contribution to the development of Essence of Care and clinical bench marking within the unit. Ensure due regard is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients. Providing information and support to patients/carers, and ensuring all those involved in the care are aware of changes in this patients condition. Assist in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs. To develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via both planned  and unplanned routes.
