Herm Ward at Alderney Hospital is a specialist female older people’s mental health ward providing high quality, person-centred care for individuals experiencing dementia ,  behavioural and psychological symptoms associated with mental health conditions. We are currently recruiting  Nurses who are passionate about delivering excellent care as part of a supportive and dynamic team.

We are seeking individuals with  experience in a mental health setting who can provide confident shift leadership, work collaboratively with colleagues, and bring strong communication, assessment, and problem-solving skills. A caring, compassionate attitude and the ability to work with initiative are essential.

### Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality person centred approach to care delivery which always considers people’s safety, privacy and dignity.

To undertake assessment of patients / service users care needs, and develop programmes of care as part of the wider multi-disciplinary care team.

To provide advice to patients/ service users and carers regarding their care.

To plan, implement and review health improvement programmes in a range of settings.

Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical support to students and junior staff in the team.

### Additional requirements

**Essential**

- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively

### Job specific experience

**Essential**

- Previous experience of working with mental health clients in hospital or community setting
- Understanding of medication management issues
- Knowledge of NMC code of professional conduct

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act

### Knowledge, skills and training

**Essential**

- Registered Nurse, RMN, or RNLD, with recent experience working with patients with organic mental illness
- Understanding of ICPA and Risk Assessment and Management of Risk
- Ability to work with clients who present with challenging behaviour

### Managerial/supervisory experience

**Essential**

- Ability to supervise junior staff and students
- Good Organsiational and time management skills
- An ability to work under pressure
