### Main duties of the job

The Band 5 nurse will work as part of the ward/department team, supporting the Ward/Department Manager and senior nursing staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care. The post holder will develop competence in contributing to the management of the clinical environment, including supporting staff attendance processes, assisting with day-to-day coordination of patient care activities, and escalating concerns appropriately to senior colleagues.

The role involves working collaboratively with the nursing team to support patient flow, including assisting with admission and discharge processes and ensuring timely communication of patient needs to relevant team members. The post holder will contribute to maintaining appropriate skill mix by supporting effective teamwork and highlighting staffing or capacity issues to senior staff for review.

The Band 5 nurse will support the safe and economical use of ward resources by following Trust policies for stock use and ordering, and by escalating shortages or supply issues to senior staff within agreed procedures. They will also assist in maintaining a safe and supportive ward environment by reporting local issues, contributing to team communication, and escalating concerns or conflicts to senior nurses or the Ward Manager.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant clinical post registration experience

**Desirable**

- Experience of managing patients with long term conditions

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- RN (Adult) with current NMC registration
- Venepuncture / cannulation qualification or willingness to undertake in a set time frame
- IV administration of medicines training or willingness to undertake in a set time frame

**Desirable**

- Teaching qualification
- Speciality specific qualifications
