### Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Registered Nurse to join our dedicated nursing team within the Interventional Radiology Units at MFT.

The post holder will  be based within our Interventional Radiology (IR) team at Wythenshawe Hospital and at Manchester Royal Infirmary, working at both sites on a rotational basis. Staff may also be required to work with the small IR team based at North Manchester General Hospital when required for operational reasons or to facilitate training.

This post is full-time at 37.5 hours per week.

The shift pattern is worked over 4 days Monday-Friday at both sites, with out of hours-on-call duties overnight during the weekday and covering 24 hours at the weekend.

### Main duties of the job

We are committed to excellent development and progression opportunities which include supporting staff to gain the knowledge and skills required to care for patients during their journey in IR including:

- Admission and pre-procedure preparation
- Safe administration and monitoring under sedation
- Undertaking the role of scrub nurse during procedures
- Post-procedure recovery

A wide range of vascular & non-vascular procedures are completed in IR at MFT including as angioplasty & stenting, embolisation, ultrasound guided & CT guided biopsy, nephrostomy insertion & exchange, and gastrostomy (RIG) insertion. Wearing a lead apron is required for PPE during the majority of IR procedures.

The IR nurses work in a multi-disciplinary team alongside Consultant Radiologists, Radiographers & administrative staff.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Acute care experience
- Evidence of professional development
- Evidence of undertaking a mentor/preceptor role
- Experience in a relevant area of practice

**Desirable**

- Experience in a procedural area
- Completion of Immediate Life Support (ILS) course
- Experience of sedation practice
- Completion of sedation education course (e.g. National Safe Sedation, Sedate UK)

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- First level registration – Registered Nurse (Adult). Current full Registration with NMC (UK)
- Degree or diploma in Nursing

**Desirable**

- Mentorship qualification/ Completion of SLiP course

### Skills & Abilities

**Essential**

- Excellent written & verbal communication skills
- Awareness of own limitations
- Manages own workload & can delegate tasks appropriately
- Ability to supervise and support junior staff
- Cannulation and venepuncture skills or willingness to undertake
- Good analytical and clinical decision making skills
- Knowledge of relevant policies / legislation relevant to clinical area, current health policy & clinical governance
- Experience of using Hive or other electronic health record systems
- Ability to wear lead apron for IR procedures
- Ability to work in a cross-site role
- Ability work on the out-of-hours on-call rota
