We are looking to recruit motivated and enthusiastic nurses to join our nursing team. We have a 1 year fixed term Band 5 Staff Nurse position in John Hunter Clinic for Sexual Health & Kobler Outpatients Clinic.

You should be motivated, enthusiastic and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work with a diverse range of clients in an innovative sexual health and HIV outpatients setting.

You must have a ‘can do ‘attitude and be passionate about providing a high standard of patient care and you will be part of a team of nurses responsible for delivering a high standard of patient care at all times.

You will be fully trained in all our core competencies relevant to  Sexual health and HIV care.

Please note: there may be a requirement to work cross-site and to cover weekend working as and when required.

The post involves working with a multidisciplinary team in the assessment, diagnose and treatment of STIs and other GU conditions. You will be required to provide PrEP and other risk reduction methods.

You should be able to demonstrate competency, knowledge and interest in Sexual Health and HIV.

You will need to uphold the trust values and be non- judgemental and reliable when seeing patients from a diverse backgrounds.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities

To assess individual patient needs and requirements with minimal supervision

To plan, implement, and evaluate relevant programmes of care for individual patients within the clinic’s guidelines

To be competent in the following, with appropriate training:

- Venepuncture
- Microscopy
- Sexual Health screening
- Vaccinations for Hepatitis A & B, HPV and MPOX
- Dispensing medications under a patient group direction (PGD)
- Provide basic information around reproductive health choices and supply Emergency Contraception under PGD
- Providing HIV related care to stable patients in an outpatient setting.

To facilitate effective communication with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure appropriate nursing input into patient care discussions

To take an active part in the development and implementation of clinical audit and research

To be competent to supply and administer medications under a Patient Group Direction

To maintain clear and accurate documentation in line with unit and Trust standards

To be aware of all the Directorate and Trust Policies and Guidelines and ensure all actions are carried out accordingly

To demonstrate appropriate counselling skills when working with patients

To order investigations and provide test results to patients as per clinic protocols

To be competent in the Triage of emergency patients according to directorate-wide guidelines

To work in an outreach setting as required

Advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness, with particular reference to smoking cessation, diet, immunisations and sexual health and HIV

Support patients around adherence and understanding their HIV medication

Management

To be able to demonstrate leadership and teaching skills in the supervision and development of junior staff

To investigate and report immediately complaints, accidents, incidents and losses, in accordance with Trust Policy

To be aware of the current procedures in case of cardiac arrest, fire, flood, and major incident and attend annual mandatory training in accordance with Trust Policy Management of all medications in line with the Trust Drugs Policy

Maintain confidentiality and security of patients attending the clinic in accordance with the Data Protection Act

Ensure resources are used appropriately by all staff

To co-ordinate the clinic as required

Education

To assist in the on-going development of the clinic as an effective learning environment

To take an active role in the identification and facilitation of the educational needs of junior members of staff and students

To incorporate research and audit findings into clinical practice

To be competent in sexual health promotion and education

To undertake relevant professional development as discussed within a yearly appraisal with their Manager

Be aware of current nursing research and ensure that clinical practice is evidence based.

To promote a sensitive and caring approach to patients, visitors and colleagues

To ensure communications with patients and their relatives are supportive and informative with due regard to confidentiality

To be prepared to work flexible hours across HIV & Sexual Health Services within the Directorate and in outreach settings
