An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join the SLT team within the Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Services.

The postholder will work within specialist inpatient neurorehabilitation, based at St George’s Hospital. The successful post holder will share our commitment to excellence and ensuring high standards of evidence based practice. They will be interested in developing skills in adult acquired disorders, and will have an integral role in providing communication and swallowing assessment and treatment to patients.

The successful post holder will be supported in their initial development, progressing to independent management of a caseload. The successful post holder will collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver goal focused neurorehabilitation.

They will receive regular clinical supervision and support to develop specialist clinical skills. They will be joining a highly proficient, professional, patient centred and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Team offering excellent support and well established CPD opportunities.

### Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, management and treatment of their own caseload of patient/clients with communication and/or swallowing impairment as a result of neurological conditions.

The post holder will be expected to work with initial support moving to independent working. A significant proportion of these patients/clients will have English as an additional language (EAL).

He/She will be expected to work as a member of a team providing an efficient and effective service, liaising with internal and external agencies.

The post holder will also work within the multi-disciplinary team providing co-ordinated individualised management and/or treatment for patients/clients, involving families as necessary and providing appropriate recommendations and training to multi-disciplinary team members.

The post holder will participate in continuing professional development and other activities to maintain evidence based best practice.

The post holder will also assist with the work of student placements, guidance for speech therapy assistants and colleagues.

The post holder may work across a range of sites and specialties within the St. George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as directed by the Chief Therapist and AHP Lea

### Experience

**Essential**

- Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level including clinical training, clinical experience with an adult caseload in a previous job or clinical placement.

- Knowledge of a range of assessment tools relevant to specific client group with speech, language, communication, voice and swallowing difficulties
- Knowledge of a range of therapeutic and management approaches to relevant to client group
- Knowledge of the range of alternative/augmentative communication systems available
- Demonstrates negotiation and problem solving skills
- Demonstrates excellent concentration, analytical and reflection skills
- Good interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Good presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Good organisational and prioritisation skills
- Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
- Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
- Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group)
- Competent with IT skills
- Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance and the implications for SLT
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
- Knowledge of standards of record keeping

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health and Care Professions Council – Licence to Practice

**Desirable**

- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of completion of specialist short courses and self directed study
