The role is offered at full-time and is located at Cedar House within our St. Michael's Community Hospital site within the School Age Speech & Language Therapy Team. The weekly hours for this role will be agreed at interview. Our School-Age Speech and Language Therapy Service supports children and young people in Enfield with speech, language and communication needs, as well as difficulties with eating and drinking. We work in partnership with children, young people, families, schools and other professionals to provide: - Assessment of speech, language and communication strengths and areas of need. - Individualised intervention and therapy programmes delivered in collaboration with families and educational settings. - Assessment and support for eating and drinking difficulties. - Specialist support for children and young people who stammer, have speech sound difficulties, or experience selective mutism. - Written reports outlining identified needs, the impact on learning and social interaction, and recommendations to support positive outcomes. - Training, advice and consultation for school staff to help create communication-friendly learning environments. Please note: We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role, and therefore advise submission of applications at the earliest opportunity. ### Main duties of the job The post holder will provide speech and language intervention to a designated caseload of children and young people with Education Health and Care plans with a range of speech, language and communication needs, attending Enfield mainstream primary and secondary schools, specialist provisions (Mainstream Specialist Resource Provision or special school). This post will involve travelling between schools and working alongside teaching staff to ensure appropriate intervention programmes are in place for the Children/Young People under their care. The postholder will be expected to work collaboratively with Children/Young People to ensure that they are actively involved in setting goals and planning their care, parents/carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services in planning and delivery of services. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities A full list of duties and responsibilities will be found within the job description and requirements for the role can be found within the person specification. ## Person Specification ### Experience **Essential** - Experience of working as a Speech and Language Therapist or Speech and Language Therapy student in an Education setting with children who have speech language and communication needs. - A knowledge of SEN and national documents providing support and guidance to schools on supporting children with SEN - Ability to relate clinical theory to clinical practice - Experience of different intervention methods for children of school age - Knowledge and experience of a range of methods of assessment appropriate for school age children ### Other requirements **Essential** - Frequent and intense use of highly developed auditory discrimination, perceptual and well-developed concentration skills for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of clients - Able to make own effective travel arrangements. **Desirable** - Car driver/owner ### Personal Qualities **Essential** - Enthusiastic and motivated. - Good interpersonal skills. - Professional approach to work. - Accountability – Takes responsibility for own actions and promotes good team working. - Openness – Shares information and good practice appropriately. - Mutual respect – Treats others with courtesy and respect. ### Skills & Aptitudes **Essential** - Confident in delivering training. - Able to construct clear care plans differentiating appropriate intervention types from a range of options, based on analysis of information from assessment. - Demonstrates the importance of gaining Child/Young Person’s view of their strengths and needs and supporting them to be active in the goal setting process. - Ability to write reports using accessible language and demonstrating clinical reasoning. - Able to organise, plan and prioritise own workload.
