The Buckinghamshire Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic therapist to continue their career in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

We are looking to recruit a band 6 speech and language therapist to work in our Team.    This is a community post, ability to drive and access to a car is essential.  The post is based at Wycombe hospital with appointments offered remotely and in patients homes and communities according to need.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated speech and language therapist who is eager to learn as well as bring a fresh perspective to the service. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills. You will be expected to work independently but to seek professional support and supervision from senior colleagues where necessary.

### Main duties of the job

- To manage a defined caseload and work autonomously, with regular support/supervision from the speech and language therapy team.
- To identify, assess and make a differential diagnosis of communication and swallowing impairments and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective treatment.
- To develop clinical skills and professional knowledge through experience, training and supervision and to work towards developing competencies in agreed areas of patient management.
- To take part in the supervision of students.
- To take part in supervision of the work of rehabilitation assistants and volunteers when required.
- To take part in the development and delivery of training to others

### EXPERIENCE

**Essential**

- A minimum of 2 years clinical experience with an adult caseload
- Evidence of developing specialist knowledge/skills resulting from clinical experience and continuing professional development.

**Desirable**

- Experience of the application of quality measures pertaining to SLT
- Experience working with clients who are AAC users

### SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

**Essential**

- Ability to travel to patients homes and community sites throughout Buckinghamshire

### SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

**Essential**

- Knowledge of specialist SLT assessment and therapy tools relevant to the client group
- Awareness of the principles of clinical governance and quality measures
- Knowledge of the roles of other professionals involved in the relevant areas of patient care

**Desirable**

- Excellent auditory and perceptual skills
- Knowledge of technology relevant to SLT pathways
- Awareness of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group

### . EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

**Essential**

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
- Health and Care Professions Council Licence To Practice
- Completion of accredited postgraduate qualification in dysphagia or equivalent, demonstrating completion of competencies

**Desirable**

- Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Evidence of successful completion of relevant post graduate short courses
- Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
