We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and forward thinking individual with an interest in training in Forensic Pathology to join the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit. The trainee will work under the supervision of our experienced forensic pathologist team. There are opportunities to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, audit, research and development. ### Main duties of the job This post is part of the Leicester Forensic Histopathology Training Programme. The programme follows the curriculum for specialty training in Forensic Histopathology set by the Royal College of Pathologists and is directed by the Histopathology Specialty School. The programme lasts 2.5 to 3.5 years for those entering the Specialty Registrar grade for the first time at ST3 level. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities The trainee will be expected to complete a minimal number of autopsies to meet Royal College of Pathologists training requirements. They will accompany the consultant members of the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit on suspicious death cases dependent upon their working time and rotas. These take place within the area of the East Midlands. They will also accompany the forensic pathology consultants to court to gain experience of the medico-legal system. By the end of their training, trainees will be expected to give evidence in Coroner’s Court in cases they have undertaken. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service. ## Person Specification ### Other **Essential** - An understanding of the principles of clinical audit. **Desirable** - Interest and experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. ### Experience **Essential** - Two years post-registration experience in a histopathology post recognised by RCPath with evidence of successful progression and completion of ICPT training. ### Management **Essential** - Evidence of basic organisational and management skills. - Ability to manage own learning time. - Understanding of health and safety issues in pathology. **Desirable** - Shows interest, enthusiasm or demonstrates ability. - Understanding of the Health Service and of the management structure of pathology laboratories. ### Personal skills **Essential** - Commitment to specialty and learning, Interest in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice - Can cope with stressful situations and take responsibility.
