We are seeking enthusiastic committed General Practitioners with an MRCGP qualification; however applications from non General Practitioners with relevant experience will also be welcomed. Experience in Forensic Medicine is essential.

The role of the forensic physician is varied and interesting. The work is divided between custody healthcare and the performing of forensic medical examinations. We have an experienced autonomous team of Forensic & Custody Nurses who act as 'gatekeepers' to the service. The nurses manage patients in custody and coordinate and corroborate forensic examinations. The Forensic Physician will perform examinations and assessments of adults and children under the instruction of Police Scotland. This offers a diverse range of clinical presentations in an exciting and fluid environment. You are permitted a privileged insight into the inner workings of the police and criminal justice system with opportunities to present your findings in court.

You will be part of a team of 3 Forensic Physicians covering a 24/7 rota. This post covering every second weekend (4 sessions)

Facilities include medical and forensic medical rooms in the police headquarters. The Service boasts a purpose built paediatric examination suite and a forensic examination suite in non police settings.

Your own transport & ability to travel is essential

Post graduate examinations are currently available via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (a sub faculty of the Royal College of Physicians) and offer career development opportunities.

Pay scale is Salaried GP scale £79,861 - £119,198

After the initial 3 months there may be an opportunity to extend.

## Person Specification

### Clinical and Forensic Responsibilities

**Essential**

- Provide forensic medical services in relation to forensic medical examinations in order collect evidence for the prosecution of crimes for both complainers and suspects
- Provide forensic medical examinations of children where a crime has been suspected, jointly with a Paediatrician
- Assess people suspected of driving while under the influence, including taking blood tests
- Attend any court of law or tribunal when required, to give evidence in connection with any matter arising from the provision of the services of a Forensic Physician as a professional witness
- Assess detainees to determine fitness to be detained, interviewed or understand Court processes
- Provide custody healthcare services in relation to detainees who present with routine health problems and emergency situations
- Prescription of medication as required
- Examination and treatment of injuries and conditions, including post incident exposure to CS Spray, TASER, etc.
- Assessment and treatment of mental health needs of detainees
- Examine and give advice to officers who have been exposed to Pava Spray

- Adhere to and comply with all NHS Tayside induction, health and safety, risk management, data protection, confidentiality and IT security procedures
- Undertake mandatory training as specified by the Forensic & Custody Healthcare Service to include BLS/ILS and Child Protection
