### Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Urology at Leicester General Hospital as a Specialty Doctor. The post is designed to offer a flexible and supportive working environment, with a combination of fixed clinical sessions alongside the opportunity to contribute to service delivery through cross-cover of colleagues’ sessions.

The successful candidate will participate in the Urology on-call rota (1:9), providing support for adult emergency urological care across the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The on-call service is structured to ensure robust consultant support, enabling the delivery of safe, high-quality care for patients presenting with acute urological conditions.

You will work closely with the on-call consultant and the wider multidisciplinary team, playing a key role in maintaining high clinical standards, patient safety, and effective service delivery across the pathway.

This is a 12-month fixed-term post, offering an excellent opportunity to develop clinical experience within a busy and progressive urology service.

### Main duties of the job

The appointee would be expected to perform the duties as laid down in the job plan which will consist of 8 clinical sessions 1 administration & 1 educational session. The timetable will be totally flexible and the successful candidate may be asked, at short notice, to perform a different duty, e.g. theatre session instead of a clinic, when service needs dictate.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To contribute to inpatient theatre activity for Urology
- To contribute to the day case surgery theatre activity for Urology.
- To undertake general and subspecialty urology outpatient clinics at Leicester General Hospital. To be able to work towards independently operating on the following:

Peno-scrotal surgery (circumcision, vasectomy, hydrocele correction, epididymal cyst excision)

TURBT

TURP

Flexible Cystoscopy

TRUS Biopsy

Uro-Dynamic Study

### Audit

**Essential**

- Understanding the principles of audit
- Evidence of personal audit of own surgical outcomes
- Experience in, evidence of and commitment to medical audit.
- Willingness to lead in audit and clinical governance issues

- Evidence of participation in audit projects
- Undergone training in teaching and willingness to organise relevant audit activities

### Research

**Essential**

- 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 of which will be as a trainee in Urology, or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Ability to work unsupervised in urology. Awareness of constraints, risks and potential complications of management
- Documented competencies in key areas of basic specialist practice.
- Ability to record accurate and complete medical notes Clinical Knowledge and Expertise: Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems; demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence based practice Show career progression, by posts obtained during training to date
- IT Skills, ability to use web browser, excel, word etc.
