### Job overview

We are inviting applications for Specialty Doctor in Prosthodontics to join our dynamic team, within the Division of Restorative Dentistry, starting at the earliest opportunity.

We have two posts available, one for 3.4 PAs, fixed term to 28/02/2029 and one for 6.8 PAs, fixed term to 18/05/2027.

These posts will be primarily to support service provision of treatment patients and to support clinical supervision of StRs, DCTs and MClinDent trainees.

The post is based at the Royal National ENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals, part of the Specialist Hospitals Board of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Successful applicants will join a well established team in providing a wide range of complex Prosthodontic and Restorative procedures, including surgical components. They must be experienced in management of patients requiring a multidisciplinary approach, such as (but not limited to) head and neck cancer, hypodontia and dental trauma. Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills and some further postgraduate experience in this field. They should demonstrate evidence of both team working and leadership skills.

Candidates should ideally be on/ eligible for the Specialist Register in Restorative Dentistry/ Prosthodontics or at the minimum demonstrate further postgraduate training in this discipline.

### Main duties of the job

Direct Clinical Care Activities

- Provide care for patients requiring complex restorative/ prosthodontic rehabilitation and multidisciplinary care. 2. Provide clinical supervision for StRs, DCTs and MClinDent trainees 3. Support the Clinical Lead and rest of team to ensure that departmental service and quality standards and targets are fulfilled. 4. Participate in the training activities of the Department and potentially supervise the clinical work of trainees. 5. Assist with the development of the clinical service in the Department and help to foster good relationships between the Department and other practitioners

- To undertake administrative duties in the Department and Division as required by the Clinical Lead. 2. To ensure that patient management issues relating to clinical effectiveness are in place. 3. To undertake an active part in the audit activities of the Department. 4. Work effectively as part of a Department with both an NHS and an academic component. and foster effective collaboration with all hospital and academic staff in the Department, Division, Hospital and Institution at large. 5. Assist and participate in the continuing professional development activities of the Department. 6. To undertake mandatory training and continuing professional development as required by the Trust. 7. To attend and assist the delivery of local and divisional governance meetings and comply with and promote all clinical governance protocols and standards

- Proficient and competent in undertaking a range of clinical procedures both fixed and removable, in the field of Restorative Dentistry (to cover prosthodontics and fundamentals of endodontics and periodontology)
- Evidence of undertaking previous hospital posts / training / appointments or equivalent particularly in the field of prosthodontics/ Rest. Dentistry

**Desirable**

- Previous hospital posts/ training in other disciplines eg Oral Surgery

- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.

### Skills and Abilities

**Essential**

- Able to manage and treat patients with advanced restorative/ prosthodontic treatment needs including HNC.
- Experience with dental implant rehabilitation
- Effective Participation in Audit by demonstration of completed audits
- Understanding data reporting and its relevance
- Apply evidence-based practice to clinical care

**Desirable**

- Ability to undertake endodontic treatment
- Evidence of managing/ planning for periodontal disease
- Experience in digital dentistry workflows
- Involvement with clinical governance
- Managing waiting lists and RTT
- Research/ publications relevant to Restorative Dentistry
- Experience of teaching general dental practitioners, postgraduates and junior staff

### Knowledge and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
- BDS or equivalent
- NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GDC Dentist’s register by date of interview.
- Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent.
- On the GDC’s Specialist Register for Restorative Dentistry and/or Prosthodontics or eligible for/ in process of application

**Desirable**

- MSc or equivalent
