The postholder will work under consultant supervision while providing clinical leadership, supervision and support to junior medical staff. The on call commitment is shared with the other middle grade staff. The rota does include prospective cover for annual leave and study leave. There are a minimum of two middle grade doctors on shift daytime until 9pm and three overnight 9pm-9am. Doctors are allocated an area of primary responsibility but will be expected to move across all paediatric areas as required. The above mentioned programme has to be read in conjunction with the proposed work programme. Obviously it may need to be varied to meet the needs of the service and to maintain patient care. ### Detailed job description and main responsibilities - Attend and contribute to daily consultant-led ward rounds on the Children’s Ward and in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), ensuring that agreed clinical plans are implemented, documented and reviewed. - Assess, investigate and manage infants, children and young people presenting to the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU), with support from the designated consultant. - Provide timely senior paediatric assessment of patients presenting to the Emergency Department, including emergency referrals and patients requiring review at the request of the responsible consultant. - Assess and manage acutely unwell or deteriorating neonates and children in the delivery suite, Emergency Department, PAU, Children’s Ward, Day Care Unit and SCBU. ### Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
