A Specialty Doctor based at University Hospital Monklands with duties across NHS Lanarkshire. The post holder will participate in the middle grade on call rota. This is a general ENT post, with the potential to develop a subspecialist interest. The post holder will be assisting ENT consultants in outpatients and theatre, and running independent outpatient clinics and theatre lists, depending on their skills and experience.

The successful applicant will join an existing team of 9 Consultants, 1 Specialty Doctor, 4 STs on the West of Scotland Training Scheme, 2 Clinical Development Fellows and 2 FY2s.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager (provide contacts) who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements

### Other

**Essential**

- Fluent in medical English and evidence of ability to communicate in stressful situations.
- Current full driving licence and access to a vehicle (required for jobs where an immediate return to site or travel between sites is required)

- Preference to work in a District General Hospital.

### Teaching

**Essential**

- Formal training in educational/clinical supervision for example Teaching the Teachers or equivalent or postgraduate degrees.
- Honorary teaching post with a Scottish University (current or previous)

- At least a year of General Surgery experience.
- At least a year of Oral Maxillofacial experience. Recent experience in performing elective tracheostomies.
- Experience as first operator for operations requiring a general anaesthetic.
- Recent and relevant experience and personal qualities to work in a busy unit dealing with the high turnover of planned and unscheduled admissions.
- Ability to supervise the clinical work of doctors in training and relevant staff in other disciplines.
- Confident with indirect supervision of varying grades of doctors in training.
- Previous experience in organising NHS Services or equivalent.
