### Job overview

This post will join the team responsible for the provision of all Dermatology services to the Local Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

The post will be required to support the delivery of Dermatology services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be one of a number of Specialty Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, junior doctors, and Nursing team.

The role will cover all aspects of Dermatology services working at middle grade level. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who wish to gain wider experience in Dermatology specialties in an acute setting.

A wide range of general experience is a requirement, and special interests, which complement existing services, will be supported.

### Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To be actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.
- To be available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
- To contribute with the multi-disciplinary team in the use of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.
- You may be expected to make independent clinical decisions, but will receive appropriate training/supervision.
- Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.
- Work with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality service provided by well-trained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain good communication with clinical colleagues across the Health Board, regarding the treatment of their patients, and the appropriate use of the department’s resources.
- Required to participate in the Health Board Risk Management process and in Clinical Audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, Planned Care and the Health Board. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with Health Board, Commissioner and NHS priorities.
- Work to ensure that services within the department fulfil contractual performance indicators and work closely with directorate colleagues in identifying problem areas and planning and implementing appropriate solutions

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Welsh language skills are desirable

### Experience

**Essential**

- Up to date with current practices in Dermatology
- Commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working

**Desirable**

- Previous experience of working in the NHS/experience of NHS working practices and systems.

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Full GMC/GDC Registration
- 6 years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time basis), at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme in the relevant specialty

**Desirable**

- Further relevant degree/diploma/teaching qualification

### Skills & Abilities

**Essential**

- Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from more senior doctors as appropriate
- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate sensitively with patients, relatives and staff
