Applicants must have completed a minimum of four years' full-time postgraduate training (or the equivalent gained through part-time or flexible training), including at least two years in a recognised training programme within the relevant specialty or as a fixed-term specialty trainee. Equivalent experience and competencies gained outside a formal training programme will also be considered. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered. ### Main duties of the job The successful candidates have the opportunity to extend their experience in cardio-thoracic surgery, with the possibility to develop a sub-specialty interest in mitral, aortic or thoracic surgery. They will be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, be involved in operating sessions, wards, ITU, OPD, MDT and research projects. The candidate will take part to the resident on-call rota for cardio-thoracic. The specialty doctor will also participate in outpatient clinics and aortic MDTs where they will have the opportunity to engage with the multi-disciplinary teams of different hospitals.
