The Opportunity

Applications are invited for a Permanent Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics . This is a 10 PA contract (40 hours per week), which includes a minimum of 1 SPA. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive team comprising 10 Consultants, 3 Specialist Doctors 4 Specialty Doctors, and 6 Trainees at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The Department & Facilities Our newly built District General Hospital, opened in December 2017, offers state-of-the-art facilities. You will be working in a modern environment designed for optimal patient care:

- A main theatre complex featuring 8 operating theatres and 4 endoscopy/minor procedure rooms.
- Specialised theatres including a dedicated obstetric theatre, 3 UCV (laminar flow) theatres, 2 integrated laparoscopic theatres, and 1 theatre designed for fixed radiological equipment. We are currently preparing to go live with a robotic surgery system for general and gynaecological procedures
- Dedicated anaesthetic rooms for every theatre.
- A 16-bed combined Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit (featuring 16 individual rooms), conveniently located adjacent to the operating theatres and above the Emergency Department.

The Role

- Elective Duties: Elective daytime sessions average 4.5 per week (varying depending on on-call frequency) and will primarily take place in the operating theatre, with occasional sessions in the ICU.
- Out of Hours: Commitment is based on a resident partial shift rota (approximately 1 in 7). This is subject to variation and is likely to include both 1st and 2nd call activity.

Candidate Requirements To be considered for this post, prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:

- Full registration with the GMC and hold a current Licence to Practice.
- A minimum of 4 years of postgraduate training, with at least 2 years in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
- Demonstrable equivalence of Stage 1 training in Obstetric Anaesthesia is essential.

### Teaching

**Desirable**

- Evidence of experience of clinical teaching and delivering classroom based educational sessions
- Qualifications in educational supervision.
- Faculty status on national educational courses

### Eligibility

**Essential**

- Eligibility to Work in the UK.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice

### Experience and Skills

**Essential**

- Competence and experience across all anaesthesia sub-specialties, particularly Critical Care, Obstetrics and Paediatrics in line with requirements for participation in resident out of hours rota.
- Ability to perform anaesthesia on elective or emergency cases supervised from out with the operating theatre.
- Ability to lead the Anaesthesia team in a theatre environment and a Resuscitation team in other areas of the hospital

**Desirable**

- Training and qualifications in advanced vascular access and use of ultrasound in clinical practice

### Academic Research and Audit

**Essential**

- Ability to perform audit cycles in line with requirements for Appraisal and Revalidation.
- Willingness to be involved in department multi centre research projects.

**Desirable**

- Evidence of previous audit projects that have led to positive service development.
- Current Good Clinical Practice certification.
- Evidence research experience including published research

### Education and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years post graduate training with at least 2 years in a recognised Anaesthesia and Critical Care training scheme.
- Completion of CT2 Competencies or their equivalent

**Desirable**

- Additional training and/or Qualifications in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine or Chronic Pain.
- Post graduate experience in other specialties
