### Job description

Post: Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Unscheduled Care Directorate; reports to a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and is responsible to the Clinical Director.

The successful applicant will join a highly skilled and multifaceted ED team, working together to deliver safe and effective care for those patients who attend our EDs.

They will work alongside our current Specialty Doctors as experienced doctors in Emergency Medicine, working in various areas of the ED including Resus, Majors, and Ambulatory Care.

This is a full-time 10 Programmed Activity (PA) post; however, all job plans are negotiable at the applicant's request.

The Trust is keen to support those with a specialty interest, with PA allocations detailed below to allow this. Specialty interests can be of any kind, provided there are links with ED and they are appropriate for ongoing CPD and career progression. This can be negotiated with ED Clinical Director and supported by your supervisor.

Emergency Medicine services are currently provided at the Emergency Department at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Emergency Department at the Mater Hospital. All staff provide clinical commitment on both sites.

### Main duties and responsibilities

- Routinely work three shifts per week including an early shift (8-4), afternoon shift (1-9) and late shift (4-12). Weekend frequency will be 1:5, with a split of 8-4pm and 4-12am shifts throughout the year.
- Work under the daily supervision of the Emergency Medicine Consultant team, with each applicant having a named supervisor for ongoing support.
- Deliver treatment and care for patients in all areas of the ED.
- Assist with the supervision of junior doctors in all areas of the ED, including implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
- Carry out administrative work related to patient care, such as referral letters, and provide accurate and timely information to patient's relatives/carers and GPs.
- Deliver 1.5 PA SPA and 1 PA for their special interest per week.
- Demonstrate an increasing ability to take decisions and carry responsibility without direct supervision as part of the special interest role.
- Provide evidence of contributions to a wider role, for example meaningful participation in or contribution to management or leadership, service development and modernisation, teaching and training of others, committee work, representative work, innovation or audit.
- Participate in teaching, including the Induction Programme, research and QI within the department as per PA allocation.
- Attend departmental teaching and inter-departmental teaching as far as other duties permit, including monthly M&M and monthly Radiology teaching.
- Take an active role in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
- Participate in the Directorate audit programme.
- Undertake continuing educational activities as necessary to remain accredited by their Royal College.
- Participate in a yearly appraisal process in accordance with DHSS&PS requirements and revalidation processes with the GMC.

- Essential: Hold Full Registration with the GMC plus a Licence to Practise (must have both at time of appointment)
- Essential: Have at least 4 years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme or as a Fixed Term Specialty Trainee in Emergency Medicine
- Essential: Certification in Advanced Life Support with in-person assessment
