We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty/SAS/Trainee psychiatric Doctor to work within our multidisciplinary Hillingdon Perinatal mental health team, with support of a consultant psychiatrist specialist in perinatal.

The position requires full GMC registration and psychiatric training or experience. Whilst prior direct experience of perinatal mental health is not essential the post-holder will demonstrate a clear interest in perinatal care and a commitment to delivering safe high quality care. This post offers the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the specialist field of perinatal psychiatry.

This will provide the opportunity to develop and improve knowledge and skills working with woman and families in the perinatal period.

The successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to patients acute and chronic psychiatric conditions in perinatal services, ensuring that assessment and interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way.

You will join a team that delivers specialist community perinatal mental health (PMHT) care, which integrate maternity services, community and primary care health services and social care. We respond rapidly to presentations within the perinatal period, screening, diagnosing and treating mental illness and associated risks to both mothers and unborn/infants within the perinatal period as well as offering pre-conception advice. We focus on prevention, early detection as per NICE guidelines and RCPsych QCN guidance, based in the community and maternity wards when required.

The duties of the post include the mental health assessment and review of patients experiencing mental health problems in our perinatal services. The post-holder will work with a medical team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Psychiatry Core Trainee.

The post-holder will contribute to the supervision of the non-medical prescriber and is expected to contribute and support in other clinical duties and writing discharge summaries.

To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and to provide expertise within the department, upholding professional standards at all times.

### Clinical Experience

**Essential**

- Completed at least four years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders

**Desirable**

- Experience of working in a specialist perinatal mental health service
- Experience in managing patients from different cultural backgrounds, using a culturally sensitive approach
- Working with interpreters and translation services

### Skills and Knowledge

**Essential**

- Ability to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach
- Able to work effectively in a Using a person-centred clinical approach to consultations
- Broad knowledge of the biological, psychological and social determinants of mental disorders in the perinatal period and evidence based management interventions
- Ability to provide medical and mental health assessments, formulate diagnoses, manage risks and initiate treatment plans
- Ability to plan treatment programmes in conjunction with a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Basic IT skills
- Up to date knowledge of recent DH documentation and NICE Guidelines
- Experience in teaching junior doctors and other professional groups
- Experience in audit/QI projects

**Desirable**

- Practical experience in a short-term psychological therap
- Experience in trauma informed approach
- Attendance at teaching courses/development of advanced teaching skills
- Attendance at specific perinatal training courses

### Education and Qualifications

**Essential**

- Medical degree
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

**Desirable**

- Section 12 approval
- Completion of MRCPsych examinations or equivalent
