An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapists to join the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service working within the acute ward team.  It is an exciting environment, working within a supportive and very friendly SLT team. For 1 session per week you will work in the long covid hub. This will provide opportunity to work in a clinic setting providing assessment and management to patients who may present with voice, swallowing or communication disorders. The voice team will be available to support the development of required competencies for this aspect of the role if required.  The post available is 18.75 hours per week on a permanent contract.

The successful candidate will be based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service working as members of the team providing SLT to the acute wards across three hospitals, the Northern General, the Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park .

They will provide clinical Speech & Language Therapy to a defined specialised caseload as part of the SLT team.

There may be an opportunity for temporary additional hours for the successful candidate

### Main duties of the job

To provide clinical speech and language therapy services to a defined specialised caseload of adult patients as part of the acute ward SLT team.

To specialise in the assessment and management of communication disorders and dysphagia in an acute setting.

To specialise in the provision of speech and language therapy interventions for patients with long covid as part of the long covid hub.

To work efficiently as part of the team to ensure that patients receive timely and effective intervention for eating, drinking, swallowing and communication disorders.

To contribute to seamless continuity of care for patients who are seen across speech and language therapy pathways.

### Skills

**Essential**

- Competent in use of IT for everyday communication.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Good presentation skills – oral and written.
- Awareness of the principles of clinical governance, audit and required standards of record keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in relation to liaison and joint working

**Desirable**

- Evidence of ability to manage specialist and complex caseload independently
- Knowledge of the NHS and understanding of the roles of other professions

### Experience

**Essential**

- Extensive post-graduate experience or equivalent.
- Experience up to or at a Band 6 level.
- Experience in working with adults in an acute hospital setting with communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from a wide range of acquired neurological conditions.
- Experience of working with relatives and carers
- Evidence of multi-disciplinary team working

**Desirable**

- Involvement in development and delivery of training packages
- Experience of working in a clinic setting
- Experience of working with voice disorders
- Experience of working with patients who have long covid

### Qualifications

**Essential**

- Relevant professional qualification (1st degree level or equivalent)
- Dysphagia experience / accreditation, including management of complex dysphagia
- Qualified to work to Proficient level on RCSLT EDS framework
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists and Health & Care Professions Council
- Evidence of continuing professional development

### Further Training

**Essential**

- Knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions for relevant client groups
- Knowledge of national policies and legislation relevant to client group, and the local implementation of these.
- Knowledge of professional and clinical guidelines relevant to the client group.

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of supported communication techniques, use of talking mats, life story books / communication passports
