This is an ideal opportunity for those who are passionate about working with preschool aged children with a range of speech, language and communication needs, in a clinic setting. Our caseload is primarily children under the age of 5, with opportunities to work with older children and young people who stammer or require support with their speech sounds.

You will work alongside Speech & Language Therapists and SLT Assistants, providing support to children and their families. You will deliver individual and group therapy, offer initial assessment and support the team with our daily drop-in clinic offer. We also work closely with Lewisham education settings, delivering training and support, and nursery visits for specific children.

There is opportunity to work more widely in the community with local Family Hubs and Early Years settings, delivering support and training focusing on promoting good communication development in the Early Years.

- To work with clinic link colleagues and clinic leads in the development of clinical pathways and service development projects
- To take responsibility for managing a clinic caseload, including triaging new referrals, managing queries, prioritisation, supporting staff and escalating to clinic leads where required
- To deliver a preventative service in settings across Lewisham
- To support negotiation with all stakeholders, including service users, around service implementation

## Person Specification

### Knowledge

**Essential**

- Working knowledge of national procedure, policies and legal frameworks relevant to the service area such as the
- Up to date knowledge of a range of assessments tools and intervention techniques relevant to children and young people with a variety of speech/language, communication, eating and drinking needs.
- Understanding of Equal Opportunities and the ability to reflect this in practice and interactions with others.

**Desirable**

- Able to target and evaluate training (formal and informal) appropriately to the needs of course participants

### Experience

**Essential**

- Able to demonstrate significant post qualification experience working with pre school aged children with a range of speech, language and communication needs.
- Significant experience working with parents/carers
- Experience of training others
- Experience of working with CYP aged 5+
- Experience of working with partners and stakeholders in the community

**Desirable**

- Experience of supporting other less experienced staff/students
- Experience of working with Speech and Language Therapy Assistants

### Personal Qualities

**Essential**

- Flexible and adaptable to different working environments and modes of service delivery
- Able to demonstrate self-motivation and initiative
- Demonstrates effective communication skills written and verbal

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council – Licence to Practice
- Registration as a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists

**Desirable**

- Membership of relevant Clinical Excellence Networks
- Post graduate study relevant to the field or equivalent specialist advanced short courses
