The Community Speech & Language Therapy team at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust works across the localities of Sefton and Liverpool, we have a vacancy for Band 6 Specialist Speech & Language Therapists based in Sefton.

We are looking for an experienced therapist to join our innovative community based team, to work with children and young people presenting with a range of social communication needs, language disorders and speech sound disorders.

This is a specialist post, with support from a range of highly specialist speech and language therapists, and access to external CPD courses and opportunities to undertake research encouraged.

This post is based in the community, and so there is an expectation that the successful candidate will be able to travel to, and between various locations throughout the week.

### Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work to provide a high-quality speech and language therapy service to children in a variety of community settings including clinics, schools and nurseries.

We are looking for a therapist who can assess and provide a range of therapeutic interventions using specialist knowledge to children with a variety of speech, language and communication difficulties.

The team work collaboratively with other partner agencies and carers to enable them to understand the communication needs and to provide appropriate advice, support and intervention.

Assess, implement and review Speech and Language Therapy intervention and discharge in a timely manner. Ensure that children/carers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their care plans and facilitate joint decisions wherever possible. Work with clients on an individual and group basis. Work independently as a member of a Speech and Language Therapy Team and as a member of a wider multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrate the ability to reflect on auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of client’s communication and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness Engage in collaborative working practices with the children and young people, their parents / carers, educational, social care and health professionals. Adapt practice to meet individual circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences. Negotiate with carers, clients and others around individual case management including the management of the communication environment.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Post graduate experience working with a range of paediatric speech, language and communication difficulties.
- Relevant experience providing assessment, care planning and report writing

**Desirable**

- A member of a relevant clinical excellence group or similar

### Knowledge & Skills

**Essential**

- Knowledge of and experience using a range of assessment tools relevant to the client group
- Knowledge of and experience of a range of appropriate interventions relevant to the client group
- Understanding of the SEND Reforms and the collaboration between NHS and Education and Social Care
- Ability to navigate the geographical area to attend multiple sites for work purposes throughout the working week.

**Desirable**

- Awareness / working knowledge of the North Staffordshire Risk Matrix
- Awareness of Therapy Outcome Measures (TOMs)

### Qualifications and Training

**Essential**

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
- Health Care Professional Council – Licence to practise.
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy

**Desirable**

- Evidence of completion of short courses relevant to Speech & Language Therapy
