Specialist Speech and Language Therapist – Band 6 Brent Mainstream Schools Team

Join our welcoming and supportive Speech and Language Therapy team in Brent, one of London’s most diverse and vibrant boroughs.

We are pleased to offer one full-time and one part-time (0.6 WTE) Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist opportunity within our well-established Mainstream Schools Team.

This role provides the opportunity to work across a range of Brent primary and secondary schools, supporting children and young people at SEN Support and those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

### Main duties of the job

Key duties in this role include:

- Assess and support children and young people with a range of speech, language and communication needs, including DLD, ASD, speech sound disorders, and selective mutism.
- Provide both individual and group therapy sessions within your allocated schools.
- Offer advice, strategies and training to school staff and parents to support communication needs across the school environment.
- Liaise effectively with parents, SENCOs, teachers and other professionals involved in a child’s care.
- Deliver training packages, workshops and contribute to wider project work across the service.
- Manage your own caseload independently with access to regular supervision, peer support and clinical guidance.

## Person Specification

### Experience

**Essential**

- Working with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties – including ASD, DLD, selective mutism and speech sound disorders
- Collaborative work with parents and other professionals, especially teachers in a school setting
- Training others
- Post graduate experience of working with children

**Desirable**

- Working in multi-cultural community

### Skills & Knowledge

**Essential**

- Normal Child Development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
- Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for pre-school & school-aged children with speech, language and communication impairments
- Knowledge of specific assessments and interventions within specialist area
- Education Practice and Policy and National Curriculum & Early Years Curriculum
- Religious, Cultural and Linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management
- Principles and models of Adult/Child Interaction
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures (especially Education Act)
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance /audit
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
- Knowledge of professional standards of record keeping
- Holistic view of communication problems in the context of education and philosophy to back this

**Desirable**

- Knowledge of collaborative models of working in schools

### Education/Qualification

**Essential**

- Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice – Royal College of Speech/Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HPC and RCSLT

**Desirable**

- RCSLT NQP competencies completed
